In this article, we will discuss the history of the Great Himalaya, the Origin of Great Himalaya and the development of Himalaya.

Himalaya at a glance.

Himalaya is the world’s highest mountain range in the Asia continent. Mountains in the Himalaya range have more than 100 highest peaks in the world with an elevation of more than 7000 meters. The world’s highest mountain peak “Mount Everest” with an elevation of 29,035 feet (8,850 meters) is also one of the Himalaya Mountain range Peak. Great Himalaya forms a barrier between plains of the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau.

Himalaya’s name is a combination of two Sanskrit words, Him + Aalaya. This in Sanskrit means Snow and Aalaya mean home. And the word Himalaya means House of Snow. The Peaks of Himalayas remains covered with snow all 12 months in a year. So, in short, the name Abode of Snow, Himalaya suits it better.

The Himalayan mountains extend from the Kashmir valley to Verma. Starting from Jammu and Kashmir it is spread over in the area of about 300 KM wide and about 2500 KM long. It goes through Himachal Pradesh, Garhwal and Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, Nepal, Darjeeling, Sikkim, Bhutan, Nagaland, Asam, etc.

Most of the rivers flowing through the Himalayas like Indus, Sutlej, Gandak, Arun, Koshi, Karnali and Brahmaputra flow from Tibet plateau to India across the Himalayas through the Himalayan ranges.

Origin of Great Himalaya and when and how it grew.

About 100 million years ago there was a long and narrow submerged area in the place of the Himalayas. This is now famous as the Tythes Sea. Towards the north and south of Tythes Sea, there were firm plots named Angaraland and Gondwanaland respectively. Angaraland was part of Asia and Gondwanaland was part of India.

Scientists say that at one time India had borders with Africa, Australia, and Antarctica continents. That is the Origin of the Great Himalaya. From about 100 million years ago, India separated from its continental parts and moved towards the old Tythes Sea at a speed of 12 centimeters per year and hit the continent of Asia. It took 6 crore years for India to reach the continent of Asia and travel 6 thousand crore kilometer to reach the first clash.

When India was moving towards Asia, a series of volcanic islands formed in the Tythes Sea towards the north. When India’s tectonic plate collided with Asia, the islands emerged from it and became part of Ladakh and Tibet. After this, India and Asia slowly came closer to each other and the Tythes Sea was lost and huge Himalayas were formed.

Indian northern states, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand, mainly lies in the west and south part of the Himalaya. Himalaya is a place where peace, spirituality, serenity, and bounty of nature still exist. All-time snow-covered mountains, beautiful valleys, high waterfalls, Legend Rivers, famous glaciers are the introduction of Himalaya. Above all the abode of Lord Shiva and thousands of God/Goddesses, includes to the definition of the Himalayan.

Himalaya is the best palace to spend vacations because it provides peace and solitude to our fatigued bodies and minds. In other words, Beautiful visuals of snow-covered mountains, dense forests, beautiful valleys, and gurgling waterfalls are mesmerizing here.
